Troparion — Tone 1

In giving birth you preserved your virginity, / In falling asleep you did not forsake the world, O Theotokos. / You were translated to life, O Mother of Life, / And by your prayers, you deliver our souls from death.

Kontakion — Tone 2

Neither the tomb, nor death could hold the Theotokos, / Who is constant in prayer and our firm hope in her intercessions. / For being the Mother of Life, / She was translated to life by the One who dwelt in her virginal womb.

Saint IRENEE, natif de Smyrne où il fut disciple de saint Polycarpe, évêque de Lyon, confesseur de la foi orthodoxe face au gnosticisme, un des théologiens les plus importants de la période qui précéda le concile de Nicée (vers 202). Il est traditionnellement considéré comme martyr, mais le fait est douteux. (Office traduit en français par le père Denis Guillaume au tome VIII du Supplément aux Ménées.)

Troparion (Tone 4)Thou hast shown thyself, O God inspired Irenaeus as a guide to the Orthodox Faith, a teacher of true worship and purity, O star of the universe and companion of Bishops, O wise one. Through thy light thou hast enlightened all, O harp of the Spirit. Therefore, intercede with Christ God to save our souls.

Troparion — Tone 4

By sharing in the ways of the Apostles, / you became a successor to their throne. / Through the practice of virtue, you found the way to divine contemplation, O inspired one of God; / by teaching the word of truth without error, you defended the Faith, even to the shedding of your blood. / Hieromartyr Irenaeus, entreat Christ God to save our souls.

Saint SIDOINE (CHELIDOINE), archevêque d'Aix-en-Provence (vers 403).

Sainte TYDFIL, martyre par la main des païens près de l'actuel Merthyr Tydfil dans le pays de Galles (vers 480).

Tydfil (Tudful), figlia di Brychan, fu uccisa dai pagani a Merthyr Tydfil nel Glamorganshire, circa l´anno 480, mentre visitava il suo vecchio padre. Ella è patrona non soltanto della chiesa di Merthyr Tydfil, ma anche del Llysronydd (ora Lisworney) e di Port Talbot nella stessa contea di Glamorganshire.
La sua festa si celebra il 23 agosto.

Di questo vescovo di Autun si conosce soltanto il nome, che si legge nel Martirologio Geronimiano (23 agosto); la maggior parte degli storici lo identifica col vescovo di Autun, Flavichonus, ricordato nella Vita di Eptadio di Cervon, contemporaneo del re Clodoveo (inizio del sec. VI). La lista episcopale lo mette al dodicesimo posto, dopo s. Eufronio, che morì verso il 490. La festa è menzionata il 23 agosto nel Martirologio Romano.
